School Building

In the immediate aftermath of Nargis we were able to send building supplies to monasteries in the Laputta area to enable them to patch up roofs and keep the many refugees gathered there dry.

Then in n June 2008 Ko Kaw Htoo, our Pandaw II , purser came up with the idea to rebuild the shcool of one village close to where they were moored south of Bassein.

Schools are essential community centres and repairing these is a small first step towards returning villagers to normality. The Pandaw team have now built six schools up country so have some experience of this. We work with the village elders who supply the labour free whilst we supply the building materials, advice and know how.

Currently we are working on a project to build ten more primary schools in the Laputta area with a total budget of US$120,000.
