Sabah - Close Encounter (RJLT002)

Situated in the North West of the Island of Borneo, the Malaysian federated state of Sabah is a natural wonder. During this eco-tour you will be able to have close encounters with the typical fauna of the region such as Orang Utan, the unique Propoboscis Monkeys (Nasica) and Sea Turtles while laying eggs on the beach. The accommodation is in comfortable eco-friendly lodges and hotels. The tour ends in Kota Kinabalu at the luxurious hotel Shangri La Tanjung Aru.

Day 01: Arrival into Sandakan

Upon arrival in Sandakan airport you will be transferred to Sabah hotel. You will spend the rest of the day free at leisure and stay overnight in hotel in Sandakan (Superior Room).

Day 02: Sandakan – Turtle (B / L / D)

In the morning you will be transfered to the jetty for a 75-minute boat ride to Selingan (Turtle
Island). On arrival, you will check into your chalet (all chalets have twin beds room with air conditioning). You can spend the rest of the day swimming or lazing on beach. After dinner you will be invited by a ranger to observe the turtles laying eggs on the beach. Later the eggs are transferred to the hatchery and you can watch their release to the sea.

 


Day 03: Turtle Island – Sandakan – Overland to Gomantong Cave & Sukau (B / L / D)


Depart the island at around 7:00 am for Sandakan. You will have Breakfast in Sandakan and then proceed to the Gomantong Caves (about 2-hour ride), passing oil palm plantation and villages on the way. You can explore this fascinating cave, which is home to millions of swiftlets and bats. The swiftlets nets are collected for the famous Chinese Bird’s nest soup. Continue on to the River Lodge for lunch and to check in. You will take an afternoon boat trip up to the Menanggul River in search for Proboscis monkeys and other forms of Wildlife. Return to the lodge for dinner and stay overnight in twin bed rooms with attached hot water showers.




Day 04: Sukau – Sepilok – Kota Kinabalu (B / L / -)

After breakfast, you will depart for the Sepilok Orangutan Centre. Here you can experience a close encounter with the “Man of the Forest”, who are undergoing a rehabilitation program to return to the wild. After lunch, brief swing of Sandakan before transfer to the airport for your flight back to Kota Kinabalu. Upon arrival into Kota Kinabalu International airport you will be met and transferred to Shangri La Tanjung Aru Resort for overnight (Mt. View).



Day 05: Departure Transfer (B / - / -)

Departure transfer from Shangri La Tanjung Aru to Kota Kinabalu International airport for your onward flight.


Package includes: English speaking guide, transfers and tours as per itinerary, accommodation with daily breakfast.

Package excludes: All flight tickets, airport tax, and drinks consumption during meals.

Things to bring along: Mosquito repellent, sun block cream, hat, raincoat, soft tennis shoes, gloves while in Gomantong cave, personal toiletries and flash/torch lamp.
