Dear Partners,

The situation in Myanmar has now broken down and shootings and other acts of violence by the military proliferate on the streets, not just of big cities, but every town and village in the country.

The Pandaw Clinics medical teams are actively providing medical aid to injured people in the Middle Burma towns and villages in which we operate. Our doctors are out with the demonstrators and ready to assist.

We need all the help we can get and please donate now to buy urgently needed medical supplies.  None of the Pandaw Clinics trustees, helpers or employees are connected with the military. The organisation receives no assistance from the military nor does it in any way financially contribute to the military government. Donate Here.

Below you’ll find a roundup of this month’s news and some educational topics.

The Telegraph UK chose our Halong Bay & Red River expedition as one of the best river cruises for 2021. Read the article Here and scroll down for a brief product introduction.

Pandaw conducts its guided tours in English; however, you can request a local German or French-speaking guide at no extra charge during the Classic Mekong expeditions. This must be added at the time of booking when selecting your cabin (along with other options such as drinks packages, etc).

We will combine French or German-speaking guests in one group on the same date. This offer is only available on the 7-night Classic Mekong itinerary between Vietnam and Cambodia v.v. and must be pre-booked.

Other languages are available on request for an additional fee.

When picking the cabin for your client on pandaw.com, we give you the option to book private dining along with drinks packages and pre/post land extensions. Whilst most of our guest enjoy the social experience of meeting fellow travellers over meals, some may prefer a private table within the dining area. Let us know at the time of booking - this is at no extra cost and can be changed very easily onboard if the guests change their mind and prefer to join others or want to have a mix of private and group meals. The launch of our new Brahmaputra expedition in late 2021 will now be postponed until late 2022. At this time, we believe we can better serve travellers by focusing fully on our existing two itineraries in India for the coming season before giving the Mighty Brahmaputra a more fitting launch in late 2022 when the global situation will be more favourable for a new product launch!

This month: Halong Bay & Red River
In 2015 Pandaw pioneered the Red River in Northern Vietnam. Even today, we remain the only operator combining the beauty of Halong Bay, the Red River Delta, and Vietnam’s ancient capital, Hanoi, with the tributaries from the northern highlands. This is a 10-night itinerary.
View Itinerary

• Two nights cruising in the UNESCO World Heritage Halong Bay
• Halong Bay with kayak, cycling and beach options
• Full day sightseeing in Hanoi which includes visits to the prison “Hanoi Hilton”, the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and the temple of literature. Of course, we will also take you on a walk through Hanoi’s Old Quarter and taste some traditional Vietnamese coffee.
• Thanh Ha village: Avoid the touristy water puppet theatre in Hanoi. We visit Thanh Ha along the river, a village specialized in making the traditional water puppets. Enjoy a private performance in the village’s lotus pond!
• Learn about Bonsai making in Dien Xa or ceramic making in Bat Trang
• Try your luck in making Lon Na, the traditional Vietnamese conical hat
• Experience the scenic beauty of Da River (summer) or the Halong Bay on Land in Ninh Binh (winter)
• Explore exquisite temples and pagodas such as Thay & Tay Phong
• And don’t forget the mouthwatering Vietnamese cuisine onboard (alongside western delights).

Selling points:
• Niche expedition for guests looking for something new and special
• No other operator – we are the first and only cruise line on the Red River
• Intimate experience on the small vessel Angkor Pandaw with only 16 cabins
• The Angkor Pandaw is able to cruise in Halong Bay and then continue on the river
• Easy to reach with flights in/out of Hanoi, where we include transfers to/from the ship
• Great land extension programs bookable via Pandaw: Sapa with night train or Central Vietnam with Hue and Hoi An
• Included are daily excursions, full board, daily cocktail hour, lectures, transfer to/from ship and tipping for crew
• Old world beauty - travel back in time on Pandaw’s teak vessels through Vietnam’s colonial-era history.

We operate a high water (APR-NOV) and low water (DEC-MAR) itinerary. The high water itinerary allows us to cruise all the way to Tien Du and Hoa Binh on the scenic Da River. The low water itinerary ends in Viet Tri. The big selling point for the low itinerary is the stop in Ninh Binh, where we will visit the so-called “Dry Halong Bay” or “Halong Bay on Land”. For those worried about the heat and humidity of Asia, Northern Vietnam from December to March might be the better fit. Temperatures are around 15-25C / 60-80F.

Transfers are included from/to Hanoi city or airport. Check our web page for details and timings.
