Introduction
Mrauk-U (Mrauk-Oo) is a former kingdom, which had its prime time during 1430-1785. Due to its location in the Bengal Bay, it was a major regional hub, backdoor to Burma and an important port. During the times of prosperity, the kings, ministers and common people built many pagodas and temples. Thanks to that a few hundred years later you’ll find here a huge collection of sacral buildings, which can be out-shined only by Pagan. The temples in Mrauk-U have been constructed from hewn stones instead of mud and bricks. The most important ones are Shite-thaung (The temple of 80,000 images of victory), Htukkanthein temple (Htukkanthein Ordination Hall), Koe-thaung temple (temple of 90,000 images) and Five Mahn pagodas.
It’s worth to combine an excursion to Mrauk-U with a short stay on a nearby Ngapali Beach.
