Pandaw Launches Teak & Tales Podcasts to Share Stories from the River

Ask returning travellers what they remember most about a Pandaw expedition and the answer is often the same: the crew who knew their name by day two, the guides who explained the country’s history in context, the fellow passengers they still keep in touch with years later. That shared atmosphere has come to be known simply as the Pandaw spirit.

With only 10 to 30 cabins per ship, life on board is naturally social with guests having the option to mix as much or as little as they want on excursions, at meal times, and on the sundeck. Conversations start quickly and tend to continue throughout the voyage. Crew are locally recruited from the regions the ships sail through, so cultural exchange is not staged. It happens daily, in briefings, casual chats, and onboard experiences like cooking demonstrations.

That small ship environment has helped build a strong repeat guest base and an active membership community. Around 45 percent of travellers return to sail with Pandaw again, and many stay connected between trips, returning on their second voyage together as friends. For them, Pandaw is not just a one-time cruise but an ongoing way of exploring Asia’s waterways.

The sense of connection does not end when the voyage does. To extend the experience beyond the river, Pandaw recently launched the Teak and Tales podcast. Episodes range from cultural deep dives to personal stories from pursers, guides, previous guests, and partner excursion sites. It aims to give passengers a way to stay close to the places and people they met, and it gives future guests a clearer picture of what expedition river travel actually feels like.

Taken together, Pandaw’s onboard atmosphere and growing member community form a different kind of travel network. It is built less around loyalty points and more around shared experience. Small ships, familiar faces, local knowledge, and ongoing storytelling keep people connected to the rivers and to each other, long after the journey ends.
