Overnight: Phnom Penh

After breakfast, we visit Wat Phnom temple, the founding place of the city located on a small hilltop. It is a great place to people-watch as the locals come to pray for good luck. We continue to the Sosoro Museum of Economy and Money, which uses currency (or the lack thereof) as the thread to tie more than 2,000 years of Cambodian history together. Through multimedia displays, banknotes, and coins, you will see ancient pieces from the Funan kingdom showing early trade with Rome, and learn how a cashless economy throughout the Angkor era might have contributed to the empire's decline. The history continues with examples of colonial currency during the French protectorate, the Khmer Rouge's attempt at a communist economy, and the foundation of Cambodia's own currency in the late 20th century. Anyone interested in Cambodian history will find this museum surprisingly fascinating.

Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, we explore the Russian Market, the best place in the city for wood and stone carvings, jewellery, clothes, and Cambodian silk souvenirs. We end our visit at the pepper mills museum to enjoy a tasting of Kampot pepper, renowned throughout the culinary world.

Overnight: Phnom Penh

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel. You will have free time at your leisure before your private transfer (without a guide) to Phnom Penh International Airport for your onward flight. The journey to the airport is approximately 25 km and takes around one hour. Please note that the official hotel check-out time is at 12:00.
