KAMPONG CHAM

Lots of visitors head to Cambodia each year to see everything that this vibrant country has to offer. There are plenty of popular tourist spots around the country, including the likes of Angkor Wat, Phnom Penh, and Battambang. Kampong Cham is often overlooked when it comes to people making their must-see list.

Located right on the Mekong River, visiting this small provincial town will give you a much better look at rural life in the country. Not only that, though, but it’s a great way to escape the usual tourist traps. A Mekong River Cruise is the best way to explore Kampong Cham as you won’t have to worry about any crowds or busy traffic. You can breathe in the fresh air and relax as you explore the Kampong Cham province at your own laid-back pace.

Kampong Cham may only be small, but there is certainly plenty to do there. Here’s our quick guide to this small yet exciting area of Cambodia.

Things To Do In Kampong Cham

The Koh Pen Bamboo Bridge

No doubt the main attraction in the whole of the Kampong Cham province has to be the iconic Koh Pen Bamboo Bridge. It’s exactly as the name describes - a large bamboo bridge that connects the mainland of Kampong Cham to a small island. The bridge is certainly a feat of architecture and engineering as it is made only from bamboo and other natural materials. The bridge does need to be largely rebuilt during the dry season, though, but it is still perfectly fine for people to wander across!

Kampong Cham Temples

Even though the temples around Kampong Cham are slightly out of town, you will still be able to visit them as a day trip. You just need to hop on a local bus or find a taxi that will take you out to them. There are two main temples to see, which are Phnom Pros and Phnom Srey. Very close to these is the area’s only remaining wooden pagoda.

Kampong Cham Waterfront

If you just want to relax in the good weather while you are in Kampong Cham then you could always head to the waterfront. Daily life in the province is hardly rushed and when locals want to chill out, you will find them down by the water. You can wander around the small streets or simply pull up a seat in a restaurant or waterside bar while you sip on a cocktail.

City Exploration

Of course, you can always head into the centre of the town if you do like the hustle and bustle of city life. There is always plenty to explore there as well! Have a rummage around local shops and check out the best street food stalls that Kampong Cham has to offer.

After you book your Pandaw River Cruise and you stop off in Kampong Cham, you will certainly have plenty to see and do.
